APMP Pathway
The course topics are determined by the syllabus for the APMP examination. The APMP assesses the candidate’s breadth of knowledge in all areas of project management, from strategic and commercial applications, to the technical, organisational and people management skills required to participate effectively within the project team. The focus is on providing knowledge, principles and best practices in project management. CITI’s APMP Pathway not only covers the project management core knowledge requirements but also ensures that specialised topics are adequately reviewed. To ensure that candidates are ready for the exam, CITI provides a preparation programme made up of a number of elements. Designed for distance learning, the elements have been established to create maximum support for candidates who have to fit their studies around a challenging day job, whilst maintaining a social life. However, candidates should be warned that they must devote between 8 to 12 hours of study each week if they are to stand a chance of passing this demanding examination.
Who is it for
The APMP Pathway is for those individuals who have worked on projects for at least 1 to 2 years and for those with the desire to gain the APMP qualification, as a first step of gaining a project management qualification. Whilst limited previous knowledge or experience is necessary, the course contains between 60 and 80 hours of self-study work which requires considerable commitment to complete.
What will I gain
The primary purpose of this course is to prepare delegates for the successful completion of the APMP three-hour, closed book examination. The course covers the entire syllabus of the 37 APM body of knowledge (BoK) subject areas.

Course approach
Most of the preparation is carried out using distance learning material. CITI provides a study pack that contains a study guide, questions and solution notes and logon details to access CITI Xchange, our private web site, where a bulletin board and chat room can be used to share ideas with your fellow candidates. A one-day workshop is run during which the examination technique is rehearsed. Specific areas of weakness identified during the preparation period are developed. The tutor will deliver a number of lectures on the more ‘difficult subjects’. Finally, a one-hour mock examination is set under exam conditions and the answers are marked by the tutor with written feedback provided by post. This is followed by the APMP examination up to four weeks later in which candidates will be require to complete a closed-book, three-hour, written exam paper.
Duration
Self-study and preparation period is up to three months:
- typically eight weeks up to the workshop day (1 day)
- followed by a further four weeks up to the examination day (1 day)
- depending on experience, candidates will spend eight to twelve hours per week on their studies.
Course fee
The course fee includes your examination fees and distance learning manual.
