The Postgraduate Certificate Managing Major Projects (PG Cert) is run in conjunction with the National Centre for Project Management at Middlesex University.

The tutors on the PG Cert are all practicing project managers, who provide consultancy support to major commercial and government agencies. They will share their experience with you so you can see how the tools and techniques can be applied.

Short modules provide an environment for group activities and learning. Distance learning extends your understanding within the context of your ownwork environment. Assessment is based solely on work-based assignments, including a project report showing how you can apply the disciplines on your own projects.

Study pattern – part time/distance learning Due to university enrolment procedures, you are required to register on the postgraduate certificate programme eight weeks before the first contact day. Start dates are scheduled throughout the year, allowing you to register, and plan your commitment to gain this accreditation, whilst balancing critical events in your organisation’s calendar.

Your time commitment to the programme is up to 12 hours per week, over nine months. The lecture modules are full-time and account for approximately 20% of the total required study time.

Entry requirements Ideally you will possess a good Honours degree and three years experience in managing small to medium sized complex projects. Alternatively, you will have substantial management experience.

Attendance It is important for you to have a clear understanding of the time and commitment you need to dedicate to gaining this professional qualification. The programme is distance learning along with 13 contact days over a nine month period. Classes are small, focused andspread throughout the year.

Assessment Assessment is based on a series of work-based assignments that includes a project report. You are expected to make use of the tools, techniques and disciplines as soon as you can, within your own projects. ‘Learn-do-reflect’ is the fundamental mantra of the Postgraduate Certificate in Managing Major Projects.

The bigger picture The postgraduate certificate is the first step in a larger programme to include a postgraduate diploma and masters.
