PPSO management
One of the most significant steps along the path to project capability maturity is the establishment of a PPSO. CITI has helped numerous clients take that step with confidence, with consequent beneficial results in performance.
The most basic PPSO is one that offers only an administrative service to the organisation. Beyond this, PPSOs run by people with a sound knowledge of projects or programmes and an understanding of project or programme methodology can be described as control oriented because they act as custodians of best-practice. PPSOs managed by knowledgeable people who have in addition experience of project or programme management delivery have the credibility to offer guidance to the project management community. Those led by a manager with significant management experience and the ear of the senior management team, can be described as partner PPSOs.
The evolution and development of a PPSO along the lines outlined above depends on the level and nature of engagement of three major groups: senior management, the project management community, and the PPSO member themselves.
